MegaMan ZX - Magic Fish mix, v3 (08-05-2007)
ROM hack by Hypershell

You know how Capcom and their crummy US and European departments axed the voices from MegaMan ZX? Well, you don't have to stand for it! Fixing the problem is easier than you think. Here are the step-by-step instructions to get MegaMan ZX, in english, with japanese voices.

Contents of this download:
-this TXT
-banner.bin
-the "data" folder and all contents within (103 files and 1 sub-folder)
-Extract.bat
-Compile.bat
-ndstool.exe (version 1.24, by DarkFader)

Other stuff you need:
-The Nintendo DS rom, Rockman ZX (japanese version, obviously; I WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES supply this, so don't bother asking me)
-Some means of playing a Nintendo DS rom (figure that one out yourself)

What you do:
Step 1 - Move your Rockman ZX rom into the same directory as ndstool and the .bat files (it is important that the rom is the *ONLY* .nds file in the directory at this time, otherwise Extract.bat won't work). Run "Extract.bat", and it will create an "EXTRACTED" folder, and place all contents of the rom in there.
Step 2 - Copy the "data" folder and "banner.bin" file that came with this download into the "EXTRACTED" folder, overwriting all files with the same name (if there aren't any files of the same name, you didn't do it right).
Step 3 - Now run "Compile.bat", and it will create a new rom, called "MegaMan ZX - Magic Fish mix.nds".
Step 4 - You're done. Play your shiney new rom through whatever unmentionable means you've got.

Known issues:
-Non-story-relevant NPC text is garbled, as is the disc database. This is because switching english files for those causes the game to crash, so I had to leave the japanese files in. However, since the Japanese font is replaced with the hack, the result is a mess. But the game will still progress this way.
-Sub-quest titles are garbled in the mission select menu, as are some of the end credits. No clue why this is, or how to fix, but the sub-quest descriptions and character dialogue for them are perfectly readable.
-A few menu icons and the name labels are still japanese. These are images, not fonts, the japanese font is completely removed using this hack. I have yet to track down the location of these images (it would seem to be somewhere in the overlay folder).
-Voices do not play for certain clips, this is normal. Sometimes the same statement in english takes more space than in japanese, and so Capcom's translation team has to add an extra text box. Since in the japanese version, this is actually the later half of the previous message, the spoken dialogue for it is in the later half of the previous voice clip.

Stuff I'd do if I had the help of more talented hackers and/or better tools:
-Fix the above issues.
-Remove all instances of "M.E.G.A. System" and "Megamerge", and instead keep japanese equivalents ("R.O.C.K. System" and "Rock On").
-Enable Model OX at the start of a new game (curse this game's lack of New Game Plus!).
-Soup up Model OX a bit, it lacks a few of Omega's abilities (double jump, larger charged saber, 7 hit saber combo, and also the ice spin should pause in midair). This is a big pipe dream, but hey, nothing wrong with dreaming.

Special Thanks:
-God, for creating the universe.
-Stephanie, for making life worth living.
-Capcom of Japan, and Inticreates, for the hard work you do. May CoA either preserve your efforts in translation, or get their own damn voice actors, instead of just throwing your stuff away.
-Capcom of America, you screw up, but we love you anyway. Without you we wouldn't know what the heck is going on in the games.
-DarkFader, and all others involved in the DS Homebrew scene, without whom this mod would be impossible. You all rock many socks.
